I recently had the pleasure of capturing an incredibly intimate elopement at Chateau Elan just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. Chateau Elan is a remarkable place for a wedding destination, especially for couples looking for a romantic, elegant backdrop that feels like a European escape without leaving the South. With its stunning vineyards, cozy resort accommodations, and renowned winery, it provides the perfect setting for not only weddings but also extended weekend retreats.
For this specific couple, the venue choice was deeply personal. The bride had visited the winery with her friends a few years earlier and fell completely in love with the estate. She had such an unforgettable time that when it came time to plan her wedding, she knew she wanted to travel all the way from New Orleans to Atlanta to have their elopement right here on the property.
What sets a Chateau Elan elopement apart is the sheer versatility of the property. It accommodates weddings of all sizes, but stripping away a massive guest list allows the focus to shift entirely to the couple and their closest relationships.
For this celebration, the couple chose a beautifully stripped-back guest count, inviting only their parents—the bride’s mom, and the groom’s mom and stepdad. Even though it was a laid-back, micro-wedding schedule, the entire experience still felt exactly like a wedding day should: filled with anticipation, intentional details, and immense significance.
Before the ceremony, the couple shared a private first look tucked directly inside the lush, sprawling vines. It was a quiet, emotional moment just for the two of them before meeting up with their families.
The Ceremony on the Chateau Elan Island
The couple opted for a unique ceremony spot: the lush, manicured island that sits inside the venue’s iconic circular driveway, framed beautifully by the architecture of the main building and the tasting room.
As a professional photographer, I always like to give a little real-talk advice for couples planning their timelines here: because the estate is wide open and features gorgeous, sweeping views, there isn’t a ton of open shade. If you are planning a standard outdoor ceremony, I highly recommend aiming for a sunset wedding timeline to get that soft, golden hour glow.
However, this couple opted for a 2:00 PM ceremony, and the bright afternoon sun perfectly matched the vibrant, joyful energy of the day. As they exchanged their heartfelt vows, resort guests looked on from the terrace in the background, adding a sweet, community feel to their private moment.
A Luxury Resort Stay & Intimate Celebration Dinner
After the ceremony and family portraits around the estate, the celebration transitioned into a relaxed evening. Because Chateau Elan is a full-service luxury resort, the couple and their parents were staying on-site, completely eliminating any travel stress.
They ended their wedding night with a delicious, private dinner at the hotel on the property. It was the perfect, low-stress conclusion to a day focused strictly on love, legacy, and family connection.
